HVK bearings provide the driving force for sustainable production and processing of steel

Release time:Apr-Tue

HVK has joined the Committee, a global initiative dedicated to developing multi-stakeholder standards for the steel industry.

The concept of sustainable development requires collaboration across the entire value chain.
Steel makes a vital contribution to the sustainable development of society.
Sustainable Steel Production and Processing: HVK to Become a Committee Member

By joining the Committee, HVK underscores its global commitment to sustainable development and pursues climate-neutral steel production goals across the entire value chain.
February 21. HVK will join the ranks of the Committee, a non-profit organization that enables responsible steel procurement and production at every stage under a global standards and certification program. For HVK, adherence to responsible steel standards represents another key component of its sustainable transition process.
The Committee’s Adoption of a Global Approach to Sustainable Development
Companies, civil society groups, associations, and other organizations from all sectors of the steel production and supply chain work under the auspices of the Committee to enhance steel’s contribution to a sustainable society. This includes the responsible sourcing of raw materials, production, use, and recycling of steel. In addition to its commitment to sustainable supply chains, the Committee has developed a comprehensive set of social and environmental standards that extend the concept of sustainability to issues such as health and safety, greenhouse gas emissions, water resource management and biodiversity, human rights and labor rights, as well as community relations.
Approaches to Ensuring Sustainability Across the Entire Value Chain
“We are pleased to be part of the Committee. By strictly adhering to the principles of the Committee’s certification process, we aim to assure our customers that we are driving the transition to climate-neutral steel production across the entire value chain, in compliance with social and environmental standards,” he stated. “It is particularly important for us that these goals are pursued in tandem with downstream users and customers. Membership in the Committee is another step toward sustainable and climate-neutral steel production.”
Acting Director General of the Committee, Ali Lukas, said: “The Committee is delighted to welcome HVK as a member. We are a growing and dynamic organization, whose unique strength and market influence continue to expand. We promote the Committee’s standards worldwide, and we are proud of the positive impact we have made. HVK’s membership will be an important part of this journey. We look forward to working together to advance steel and its producers toward a sustainable society.”
Steel: The Material for the Energy Transition.
The importance of steel is not only reflected in its major customer sectors—the automotive industry, machinery manufacturing, or electrical engineering. Steel is also of immense significance to the energy transition: it serves as a critical material for the construction of wind turbines and power plants. Similarly, within the framework of new automotive design hierarchies and processing concepts, consistent lightweight construction contributes to the sustainable reduction of fuel consumption. In this context, the decarbonization of the steel industry—which accounts for approximately 7% of global CO₂ emissions—is particularly crucial. Therefore, HVK has set a target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30% by 2030 and to achieve climate-neutral steel production by 2045.
